Bot

Hi,

I'm trying to make an Arabic version of Ganeshbot, to upload stubs on Indian towns at Arabic wikipedia. However, how does the latitude-longitude works? Those parameters are not included in the census-based database you've sent me. --Soman 08:20, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Re

Ganesh, India has over 640,000 cities, towns, and villages. It is not far-fetched to believe that there is another "Kochi" lurking somewhere in that list of 640,000 names. If we followed the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city_names)#Australia convention, we won't need to constantly schlep articles back and forth between (city name), (India) and (city name), (state name) in order to obey an unnecessarily convoluted ruleset. As usual, the Australians have devised the simplest and most logical system, and we should use it. We can also start a discussion about it on WT:INWNB. Thanks. Saravask 22:06, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Location

Unfortunately, their thing seems to be manual--we just have to play around with the x and y to get the dot to match the locator in, say, this. Maybe we can request that they write auto-locator code based on coords. It's a good idea, though. Saravask 04:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Re:Kaziranga Map

Copied from Talk:Kaziranga_National_Park Since state locator maps are being used for other geographical articles, this article should be no exception. With the Assam base map, can the India base map (showing Assam) be also included at the upper left corner, like many other articles (eg Kolkata)?--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:44, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Same as Dwaipayan. Need to have India map in inset. Amartyabag TALK2ME 04:55, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

IIJ

Planemad asked me for the same thing. AFAIK, he wanted to add a "landmark" type that would hide the title bar and all fields except the locator map. I thing it's a good idea, since it will cut down on duplication of maintenence effort. The reason it hasn't been added yet is that I forgot about it. I can start helping to add it tomorrow. Saravask 07:42, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Please see Planemad's comment. Maybe it would be better to modify either Planemad's {{Infobox Indian Landmark}} (per his suggestion). Or we could modify {{Infobox Protected area}} directly, allowing it to accept accept ready-drawn maps with insets, locator dots, etc. Saravask 18:33, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Syntax page

Ganeshk, I need your experience with Indian cities articles in order to fill in the "Sources" column in Template:Infobox_Indian_Jurisdiction/Syntax. This will really help newer Indian WPians find info about their cities and contribute it to WP. Planemad and I have already added some. Thanks. Saravask 06:12, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyrights

Hi Ganesh, I have question, I was trying to update some old photos of Tamil leaders, trying to get hold of online image search, and posting it in wiki with concerned image citation, but I get warning not to post un-copyrighted images, For example, in the bio-page of Karunanidhi I tried to upload of photo of him from this page, [1], Same as the case for Anna, JJ, Periyar. Are I am allowed to do so? How can I get copyrighted images to make it legal free, Candid Comments appreciated --viggu 22:26, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Narsingi

Dear Ganeshk, The geographic coordinates of Narsingi are incorrect. It is panchayat in Rangareddi district. The located area in the map is in Medak district. Please correct the mistake.

Bot

Hi Ganesh. I would like to run a simple bot to populate articles. Could you help me create one? This is what I plan.

Script picks out the template text file which contains the text and variables. The text file would be something like this:

<tt> '''$name''' is a neighbourhood in [[Mumbai]]. It is located at {{coor d|$lat|N|$long|region:IN_type:city}}. {{infobox}} [[category:Mumbai neighboruhoods]] </tt>

The variables should be picked up from a comma separated file. Where name, lat, long, etc are defined in rows.

Is this possible? Thanks! =Nichalp «Talk»= 08:44, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Bangladeshi actors by medium, by Aditya Kabir, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Bangladeshi actors by medium has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Bangladeshi actors by medium, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Category:Bangladeshi actors by medium itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 20:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

location maps

Would you consider dual licensing your edits to {{location map}} and related template under the cc-by 2.5? (I know youu dual-license under a bunch of licenses, including cc-by 2.0. Unfortunately 2.5 isn't on the list, and I have no idea if they're compatible) This way I could use them on the english wikinews. Happy editing. Bawolff 01:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I have added {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Future}} to my userpage. That template should take care of existing CC licenses (until 3.0) and the future ones. Thanks for the information about the Wikinews licensing. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

WP:INCINE tagging

I've just finished tagging the categories for Indian cinema. I just posted to the project talk page asking someone to review the category list, but no one's replied to anything I've posted to WT:INCINE before. Of course, I have to make one change to the bot before I can tag articles, and I don't know when I'll get to it, so there's no big rush. Ingrid 20:28, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Your edit to Sengunthar

Hi Ganesh,

You have deleted a lot of the references which different editors have provided. Not all of them were google searches. A few were, this was just to prove that I was not manufacturing anything and whatever I was quoting really does exist in the book. The topic itself is very touchy but all my references are valid academic citations. Moreover these are not meant to be defamatory as the Devadasi article itself is controversial. Please read through the article. Most of the articles are valid academic citations and research books which quote ample references. For example: Devadasi in Tamil is known as Devaradiyar which means servant of god as the former does in Sanskrit. In recent times this word has been deteriorated to refer to a fallen woman in Tamil. This exact word does occur in the reference,

Weaver Folk Traditions as a Source of History Vijaya Ramaswamy,Indian Economic & Social History Review, Vol. 19, No. 1, 47-62 (1982): [7]

There are many websites like sage publications where you can read this reference. But most of them can be accessed only from Universities, Public Libraries for free. Otherwise you need to subscribe. This is the reason I gave the google link to show that the words have not been altered: Check [8]

This is a valid academic citation recognized by the Govt. of India and the author(who was a Professor of History at the Delhi University) provides ample references.I have removed the google links as you said and have left the other references intact. Thanks. Baccarat 14:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Need help with two articles within the scope of Indian cinema project

Dabboo Ratnani needs a proper bio, an infobox, and of course a complete list of celebrities who appeared through the years on his famous calendar. The sample image from his calendar also needs more critical commentary with references. Ananthabhadram needs quite some work, too, though I can't really pinpoint the problems yet. Requesting your help/guidance

Hi Ganesh, Some edit wars have been going on in the pages Andhra Pradesh and Telugu script. I've initiated discussions to resolve them. But I couldn't find any senior editors/admins (or even a good number of normal users) to particiapte in those discussions. I do not know any other admins who are experts in Andhra pradesh related topics.I thought that you would have some basic understanding. Hello Ganesha, how are you? Whenever you have the time, can you merge Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Hinduism with WT:HNB just as you did with the respective Indian pages. Thanks! GizzaDiscuss © 00:20, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
