June 2012[edit]

Thank you for your interest in editing Wikipedia. Your edit on the page Category:Pornographic film actors from California was successful, but because it was not considered beneficial to the page, the edit has been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment with editing, please use the sandbox instead. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Acebulf (talk) 23:37, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to your question, Wikipedia articles are semi-autopatrolled with a tool known as Huggle. This tool allows experienced users to monitor recent changes to edits in Wikipedia, and revert vandalism. There are also other tools, which are fully automated, such as Cluebot.
Also, welcome to Wikipedia! If I can be of any further assistance, please contact me on my talk page. Acebulf (talk) 23:48, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Becoming an admin on Wikipedia is a long process, as less than 1% of users become admins. Usually admins have more than 5000 edits, with more than a year of experience, and thorough knowledge of Wikipedia procedure and policies. They are then voted in through a discussion. Acebulf (talk) 23:58, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt very much that it is possible for you to do so. Here is a link to the policy which comes into play. Acebulf (talk) 00:06, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interlanguage links[edit]

What is the point of edits such as this one? Does the space do anything constructive? Dismas|(talk) 22:33, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

July 2012[edit]

Please stop making test edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Salma Hayek. It is considered vandalism, which, under Wikipedia policy, can lead to a loss of editing privileges. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Elizium23 (talk) 21:55, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to Jennifer Love Hewitt has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Elizium23 (talk) 22:37, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You cannot upload photos from Flickr unless they have a license compatible with Wikipedia. In most cases, this is CC-BY-SA 3.0. You need to specify the link from where you obtained the photo and you need to let an administrator verify the license. You can't just upload any old picture you find from the web. Elizium23 (talk) 22:42, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may not use the photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/animenut/2228267950/ on Wikipedia, because it specifies that the copyright is "all rights reserved". The only option you have is to contact the owner and have him or her release copyright license to the photo under CC-BY-SA 3.0 for use on Wikipedia. Elizium23 (talk) 22:53, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If is unlikely that you will convince that user to license the image under a compatible license for use on Wikipedia. If you read the page, you will see there is a link to "request to license this image from Getty Images". The license you purchase will not be compatible. You must contact the user and request a license under CC-BY-SA 3.0 for Wikipedia compatibility. That is all you can do. Alternatively, you can go out yourself with a camera, capture your own image of this person, and upload it to Wikipedia under a suitable free license. That is usually what people choose to do here. Elizium23 (talk) 23:02, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What are you talking about? Glenn Francis (talk) 23:20, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am answering his questions from my talk page: User talk:Elizium23.
The Flickr user "Anime Nut" specifies "No derivative works" in his photo licensing. This provision is incompatible with Wikipedia; you may not use his photos here unless he relicenses them with CC-BY-SA 3.0 or other compatible license. The Flickr user "djwu" specifies "All rights reserved" in his copyright notice; this license is also incompatible with Wikipedia. Elizium23 (talk) 23:32, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Elizium23, my question was for Alf54354353 regarding an entirely different subject.

A tag has been placed on File:Jennifer love hewitt city hall Oct 2012.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Possibly unfree File:Slide City Hall.jpg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Slide City Hall.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:53, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

August 2012[edit]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for Yet again uploading a file ( Aishwarya rai London City Hall, Oct 2012.jpg) that you do not own and claiming as yours. This last one is a commerical copyrighted image from 2009, not a image you can claim as under a creative commons licence. The notices above and related image deletions are for a reason. Copyright is taken very seriously on Wikipedia and repeatedly ignoring it is not tolerated.. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest[edit]

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 01:41, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
