History[edit]

Dinosaurier Taunus Wunderland 2020
Otto Barth Junior 2020

The Taunus Wonderland was opened on May 12, 1966 by Gunhilde Maxeiner and her husband as Fairy Tale Forest and Petting Zoo. In addition to a total of 400 animals, 120 European livestock and exotic animals such as chimpanzees, kangaroos, emus, llamas and parrots shown. The park was aimed at the target group of younger children and their families. From 1998, Otto Barth Senior acquired the Taunus Wonderland and it was expanded into an amusement park with rides. The Heissner company's animated fairy tale representations of ceramic and ton of the old park were gradually removed, as was the collection of plastic dinosaur replica . Some of these still exist and have been expanded with new replicas. Exotic animals were handed over to specialists, and only the stock of exotic birds was significantly expanded. In 2009, a grill hut with outdoor and indoor seating and 4 separate grill stations was built. In 2015, a new underpass will be built under the federal highway 275 and the entrance area will be modernized. From 2016, the Taunus Wunderland concept was completely revised and thematic areas and visually revised mascots were introduced.[4][5]

The park was selected by the Hessian Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth as the location of the thank you event for volunteers and their families in the refugee situation 2015.[6]

The family park is divided into 4 themed areas, each of which is assigned to one of the mascots. They are called Muckeldorf, Grandpa Alfred's Dino Valley, Uncle Benno's Farm and Aunt Rose's Candy Floss Land (as of 2021).
