Notes[edit]

  • It seems that now image.py doens't do batch replacements (i.e can't replace all instances of an image at a single run, but script needs to be run once for each instance of image). So it cannot run unattended. On the other hand, it's still much simpler than chasing links via whatlinkshere and grepping text for the image for manual replacement. Since it's not going to run unattended, I may use AWB as well if it works.
  • Image.py from pywikipedia cannot seem to handle galleries. Those are also done manually.

Here's the report of trial run for image unshadowing (orphaning local copies of images at commons):

This is an interesting and special case, as the image (as content) is the same, but the commons copy is better (higher resolution) and has a better description as well. So it makes sense to replace and use the commons one as well (the commons isa copy of the full res image linked on the source url).

Some other examples (a few are not bot worthy as only happen in 1 or 2 instances). The grapes one at WP:BRFA still have 121 replacements to be done, but I didn't want to spend my 200 trials on that ;)
