I maintain a web extension called QWiki-Cite, that can instantly generate a {{cite web}} template for the web page you're currently on.

You can install QWiki-Cite on Firefox. Feedback and bug reports are welcome on GitHub.

This extension is particularly useful if you're into cleaning up a page's citations — for example, if you're weird like me and spend time trawling through pages with bare URL references to try to fight link rot.

The project is open source and licensed under the GNU General Public License. Contributions are very welcome, please submit a pull request on GitHub.

Conflicts of Interest

My parents are both academics, and I created Wikipedia articles for them both way back in 2013 before I understood the rules around WP:COI. My father is Geoffrey Rice and my mother is Edwina Palmer. As of 2024 I no longer edit their articles due to the CoI; that said I do have them watchlisted, and am comfortable making minor edits to them. I often rely on their subject-matter expertise when working on relevant articles.
