Doesn't make sense

Resolved
 – Moot.

The description for one of the episodes says something about Julien going to the pound. It says he goes there, but then that the penguins have to save him before he gets there. Which is it - do they save him before or after he gets there? Mollymoon (talk) 01:30, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

There is no episode description material in this page any longer. It has all moved to the List of The Penguins of Madagascar episodes article, the talk page of which is where to report any extant problems with the episode descriptions. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 05:25, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Page protection

Resolved
 – Page is no longer protected or semi-protected

Is full page protection necessary here?

I don’t want to be a bother, but I question why this page was fully protected. What’s so controversial about “The Penguins of Madagascar” that it needs this high level of protection? It’s an animated TV show about penguins and their missions at a zoo!

Was there a rash of abuse/vandalism at one point? If so, I must say this: A lot of Wikipedia pages get abused and/or vandalized eventually, but fortunately, thanks to the good members of this community, most of this is soon spotted and eliminated.

When the likely-subject-to-heavy-abuse Wikipedia articles of arguably controversial and/or polarizing political figures, such as President Barack Obama or former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, only are “semi-protected,” then why is “The Penguins of Madagascar,” a Nickelodeon TV show mostly watched by children (though I, not a child, am an admitted and proud fan), subject to this, for lack of a better term, “lockdown”? I hope much that this article will soon be reinstated as free and open to all of the Wikipedia community.

Well, that’s what I think anyway. I look forward to your thoughts.

Respectfully, -An Anonymous Fan of “The Penguins of Madagascar”

76.230.158.85 (talk) 03:45, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

The reason that it is fully protected is that it is a target of banned sockmaster user:Bambifan101. And, even if it were only semi-protected you still couldn't edit it as you do not have an account. -t'shaelchat 03:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

It’s such a shame that one user ruined it for everyone else. I would like to see this page return to being able to be edited by everyone soon, though. As it is listed, the protection will expire in December! I could live with semi-protection, however.
In my brief look at the history of the article, I couldn’t see any edits made by the offending user. Were they deleted entirely from the history records?
To the original poster of this subject: I’m not sure if new posts to the discussion page are supposed to be at the top, but it doesn’t bother me personally. I think the subject warrants a prominent place to further the discussion.
MRTC Penguin (talk) 06:33, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
New posts are supposed to be added to the bottom of the page. --AussieLegend (talk) 13:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi. My bad, I'm afraid. The "full lockdown" is the default setting when protecting pages. I was protecting a bunch of this idiot's targets and a few were mistakenly protected to the max. I've lowered the level to only exclude new and unregistered users. Very sorry about the inconvenience. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 17:25, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Editing this page

I want to edit this page. {{editsemiprotected}} Luke Bundrum (talk) 21:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

As the page is semi-protected, you cannot edit it until you are autoconfirmed - although your account is more than 4 days old, you also need to have made at least 10 edits to become autoconfirmed. What is it you wanted changed, and why? (You can replace the {{Editsemiprotected}} template once you have responded, just to make sure you catch my, or someone else's attention) ∙ AJChamtalk 21:22, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

{{editsemiprotected}} There are 35 episodes now. Please update the number.

When you leave messages, please remember to "sign" your name, by putting ~~~~ (four tilde signs) at the end. This will add your name, and the date and time. You can also do this by clicking the 'sign' button, pictured here.

Please could you provide an appropriate reliable source to verify this fact, thank.  Chzz  ►  07:47, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Also, the page says it airs on Nickleodeon in Canada. This network doesn't air in Canada. Why is this semi-protected? 64.7.151.129 (talk) 22:11, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

What about the new logo?

Resolved
 – New logo now used in article.

I've noticed that Nickelodeon changed the show's logo a little bit, from the Nick splat, to the new Nick logo. Someone should try to get it and put it on the page. The show's new logo is only aired on the new episodes, so we should replace the one that's on this page, to the updated version. Does anyone have it? Green Sheet (talk) 19:20, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

I have thought about this same issue. I have looked around online for the new titlecard, but have so far turned up nothing. If and when I can find it, I’ll be sure to upload it and put it on this article’s regular page – but if anyone can do it before me, great! MRTC Penguin (talk) 17:47, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
When that is done, the original logo image here should be listed for deletion, as it is not a free image, and it will no longer be put to any fair-use purpose that can justify it remaining on the server. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 05:16, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually, getting the new logo has already been done; I obtained and uploaded it as a replacement to the old file on February 23. The image that is now being displayed is the show's up-to-date logo. Sgt. R.K. Blue (talk) 06:00, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Trying to add two new episodes that keep getting rejected

I cited this reference every time I have tried to add them.

Deb1701 (talk) 18:36, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

There's no reason for that submission not to be accepted. I restored it, added the specific reference, and am talking with AussieLegend about why he reverted it.
-Grand Commander13 (talk) 19:37, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Before I reverted I checked TVGuide and the episodes weren't listed there. They may be now, but they weren't then. I don't know what you mean by "every time" you've tried to add the episode because you've only tried once, and the reference you used was TVGuide, not the zap2it url you've listed. Perhaps that was the problem, you've seen them at zap2it but used TVGuide, where they hadn't yet been listed. It's very important to get citations correct. --AussieLegend (talk) 04:39, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Episodes and non-episode Penguins content

Unresolved
 – Even after over 1 year, there has been no consensus discussion on how to handle material about the Penguins of Madagascar (the characters) that is not material from the TV show The Penguins of Madagascar, its previews, and its associated DVD releases.

Shouldn't "Popcorn Panic" be listed on here, It's on the Madagascar 2 Bonus Disc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.109.165.199 (talk) 15:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Is the "The Penguins' Christmas Caper" even the pilot?! It was not produced by Nickelodeon Studios, like this series was, but by DreamWorks Animations. There is a major leap in quality in the animation compared to the series. At the time, a Nicktoon starring the Penguins wasn't even considered, or was still in pre-development, when this special was produced. Some more information is needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.227.159.15 (talk) 03:57, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

It's actually more complicated than that, even, as there's also Party with the Penguins, Merry Madagascar, The Penguins' Whacked-out Adventure DVD, and The Penguin's Whacked-out Holiday DVD, some with overlapping content. While this article is ostensibly about the TV show only, it really should cover the other material as well, or another article disambiguated from this one needs to do that (i.e., move this article to The Penguins of Madagascar (TV series), and have a more generic article about the penguin characterss). — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 20:37, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Marlene being an "Asian otter"

Resolved
 – Forbidden original research unless a reliable source can be cited. Wikis and blogs are not reliable sources.

Where does it say that Marlene is an Asian otter? My otters and I want to know. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Many ottersOne hammerHELP) 19:56, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

I assumed that somebody else must have checked this out when I was fixing the links but, since you asked I checked and I can't find any reference to say she's anything other than an otter. --AussieLegend (talk) 03:47, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
This is said in an episode with a sign by her cage saying Asain Otter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.254.89.216 (talk) 22:01, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
What episode, and at what timecode in the episode? If you can't source it, it is original research. If you can source it, see Template:Cite video or Template:Cite episodeSMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 20:40, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Possible evidence of Marlene being an Asian otter:
This is my first talk page post, so I hope I’m doing good!
Regarding what species of otter Marlene is, it has never been spoken on the show. However, I recently came across a screenshot of this map which the penguins looked at in the “Popcorn Panic” episode. Near the center in light blue is the penguin habitat, and directly above in yellow is the location of the “Asian otter” habitat. It could be presumed that this is the habitat of Marlene, thus rendering her an Asian otter.
Regardless of whether this helps or not, I figured I’d put it up anyway. Sgt. R.K. Blue (talk) 06:42, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
If any presumption is present at all, then it is original research. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 20:40, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
PS: You can't use the Madagascar Wiki at wikia.com as a source, because wikis are not reliable sources for Wikipedian purposes (they are tertiary sources). You can use Template:Cite video or Template:Cite episode to cite a specific episode at a specific time code (e.g. 00:24:08, or whatever). People will check it, of course. If the wikia page someone tried to use as a source cites the episode and time, you could get that information from there. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 02:51, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I'm going to bring this back up because of the reversion that just happened: we can see the map of the zoo very clearly. It's clearly depicted to be a very small zoo, and the Asian Otter exhibit is shown to be right where Marlene is relative to the Penguins. That map is in the show and so is not original research. -Grand Commander13 (talk) 00:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

If it doesn't specifically say that Marlene is an Asian otter it is original research. --AussieLegend (talk) 00:25, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
So... And this is me being very incredulous here... Someone saying that Eggie's commando inclinations having anything to do with the Penguins would be performing original research as well?
I would hope that a pair of screenshots, one of the map and one showing Marlene's habitat to be in the same spot relative to the Penguins' habitat as the Asian Otter exhibit to the penguin exhibit, would suffice as verifiable proof.
-Grand Commander13 (talk) 00:57, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it could be argued that the comments about Eggie's commando inclinations are original research, since "the term "original research" refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and stories—not already published by reliable sources." However, in "Paternal Egg-Stinct" Skipper was seen putting Eggie's egg through training aimed at turning hime into a soldier. This was also stated by Skipper. In "Popcorn Panic", there was no audible statement supporting a claim that Marlene is an asian otter. The map does show an asian otter habitat but stating "Marlene's habitat to be in the same spot relative to the Penguins' habitat as the Asian Otter exhibit to the penguin exhibit" is not supported by anything in the episode and is therefore original research. --AussieLegend (talk) 01:57, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
How is the show itself not a reliable source? It's a map of the zoo, we have easily identifiable landmarks to prove it is.
-Grand Commander13 (talk) 10:56, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Nobody has said that the show is not a reliable source, but reliable sources still have to support the claim that Marlene is an Asian otter and the episode doesn't do that. The map shows an Asian otter habitat but it doesn't mention Marlene at all. There isn't any evidence that the habitat is that of Marlene's. You're just assuming that it is, and assumptions are OR. --AussieLegend (talk) 11:44, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Missing DVD information

One blatantly obvious question about the two DVD releases that is not answered here is whether all of the content on the preview DVD is present on the new "Operation DVD Premier" disc. A second is which aired episodes are present and which missing, and what material on the new disc has never been seen before. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 05:15, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

The relevance to important info just... isn't there. It should be condensed into just main characters, or even coalited with the other list of characters, providing a new section for those characters. --Arathun (talk) 13:35, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

chimps said to be new

the 2 chimps(phil and masson) are said to be new inthe opening paragraph, but they were in both the movies. the main times there noticable were when the penguins escaped there crate in the original movie, and then in escape to africa right after the plane crashes and when they return with a few hundred monkeys to build the plane, then when they rescue the zebra and lion. and masson marries skipper and the boblle head hula doll at the end of E.T.A. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.115.204.217 (talk) 20:28, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

And of course you came to edit the Penguins article rather than the FOP article. I citation neededed the FOP article, but as AussieLegend stated there are citations for PoM being the second most popular currently.
-Grand Commander13 (talk) 21:59, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
The Fairly Oddparents was once Nickelodeon's second-highest-rated show, but that was before The Penguins of Madagascar ever came to be. According to this Slate.com article, Oddparents was the "second-highest-rated children's program on both network and cable," but that was back when the article was written on April 30, 2004. Thus, The Fairly Oddparents no longer is the second-highest-rated show since The Penguins of Madagascar has now passed them. --Sgt. R.K. Blue (talk) 04:40, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Incorrect reference removed

I have removed the IMDb citation on Tara Strong because the reference is not correct. According to this page, IMDb claims that Strong voiced Alice on three episodes. However, this conflicts with the credits shown after each episode – in each episode that has ever featured Alice, only Mary Scheer has ever been credited with providing the voice. Since the actual end credits are the ultimate reliable source, the falsehoods of IMBd must be discarded.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I have also found several other inaccuracies on IMDb's Penguins of Madagascar page and its related pages, including the allegation that Matt Nolan voiced Mort in five episodes (again, the end credits prove this false) and the utterly laughable claim that Dr. Blowhole appeared in the "Operation: Plush & Cover" episode. Once I'm done posting this message here, I'm going to send a message to IMDb to tell them about these inaccuracies. Someone over there needs to be held accountable. --Sgt. R.K.
