This ia frankly a pretty crummy article. I'm not sure I see a reason for this topic to be an article at all; the topic is probably better covered in articles on specific religions or types of music. I would vote for merging any useful material to other articles and then getting rid of this one. --Brianyoumans 02:43, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have added links to better articles elsewhere on most of the topics; perhaps this article is useful as a directory to articles elsewhere. It still needs a lot of improvement. --Brianyoumans 22:01, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Seven years later, I still think this is a lousy article. There are a zillion different types of religious music worldwide, and trying to cover them, even as an overview, in one article is pretty ludicrous.Brianyoumans (talk) 03:44, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I’ll have to agree with this one; this article serves no other purpose than acting as a redundant directory which already exists here. I’d argue that content in the lead section has significant potential to be expanded on though, especially since there are plenty of articles which reference specific music genres, but remain perfectly fine as standalone pages. This article shouldn’t be an exhaustive list of all the types of religious music out there - as you’ve pointed out, it’s unrealistic and unnecessary to do so - perhaps expanding on its historical origins, characteristics, evolution and/or influence in substantiated sections would be the right course of action. How is this article any different than say pop music? Religious music is its own category of music with many subgenres and variants which is worth exploration. skarz (talk) 14:53, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Virtually any kind of music can be considered "religious". Even music for religious rituals varies tremendously. I also think most of the topics mentioned in this article are covered much better elsewhere, which is why I think a directory might be better (and a directory already exists elsewhere). Why have a article of dubious and variable quality when there is better coverage elsewhere that we can simply link to? Brianyoumans (talk) 21:22, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This article could use either a section on a cappella religious music or discussions of it in the relevant traditions. Josh a brewer (talk) 14:25, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If it’s a genre that’s secluded and relatively unheard of dedicating an entire section to it would be a bit of a stretch. I personally wasn’t able to find any credible articles which elaborated sufficiently on the topic, but if you have any sources in mind; please, share them here.
