On 18 April 2024, it was proposed that this article be moved from Metropolitan Club to Metropolitan Club (New York City). The result of the discussion was moved.

Reason for rename[edit]

By 1891, the New York Times had been reporting about another "Metropolitan Club" for over a decade. The Times noted the confusion that the second organization "in the neighborhood" would cause:
HEADLINE: VERY HARD ON THE POSTMEN.; IT WOULD SEEM THAT THERE IS ONE METROPOLITAN CLUB TOO MANY.

Metropolitan Club → Metropolitan Club (New York City) – Per WP:PRECISE and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.

It's not so much that the phrase "Metropolitan Club" doesn't have a primary topic, it's just that the primary topic varies by context:

If you're in national politics or the Washington Metro, there's a 100% chance you're referring to the Metropolitan Club (Washington, D.C.)
If you're in the women's club movement or the San Francisco Bay, there's a 100% chance you're referring to the Metropolitan Club (San Francisco)
If you're in finance or the New York metro, there's a 100% chance you're referring to the Metropolitan Club
