Reason for rename[edit]
By 1891, the New York Times had been reporting about another "Metropolitan Club" for over a decade. The Times noted the confusion that the second organization "in the neighborhood" would cause:
HEADLINE: VERY HARD ON THE POSTMEN.; IT WOULD SEEM THAT THERE IS ONE METROPOLITAN CLUB TOO MANY.
The word "The" is part of the subject of this article. Pi314m (talk) 23:17, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Metropolitan Club → Metropolitan Club (New York City) – Per WP:PRECISE and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.
It's not so much that the phrase "Metropolitan Club" doesn't have a primary topic, it's just that the primary topic varies by context:
- If you're in national politics or the Washington Metro, there's a 100% chance you're referring to the Metropolitan Club (Washington, D.C.)
- If you're in the women's club movement or the San Francisco Bay, there's a 100% chance you're referring to the Metropolitan Club (San Francisco)
- If you're in finance or the New York metro, there's a 100% chance you're referring to the Metropolitan Club
Since we have readers from many contexts, I think it makes sense to rename this article and repurpose this page name to a disambiguation. This follows the model of Cosmopolitan Club (New York City)/Cosmopolitan Club. - RevelationDirect (talk) 12:02, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Note If this passes, links in biographies and other articles will need to be updated, which I'm happy to do. - RevelationDirect (talk) 12:02, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support The usage is definitely location and context-based. This should be a disambig. --Engineerchange (talk) 13:17, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support the New York one has 1,656 views but the Washington one has 1,745[[1]]. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:37, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support – Diffuse/broad term. Svartner (talk) 17:56, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
