Notability 01/08[edit]

The only references for this episode are Memory Alpha (see WP:SPS) and the official Star Trek website (which is not independent of the subject matter). I think we need to better establish the notability of this subject. --Explodicle (talk) 14:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This episode dealt with the often controversial and heated subject of genetic engineering. ST DS9 dealt with hard hitting topics--like Battlestar Galactica is doing today. This article should is noteworthy and should remain on Wikipedia. Leoboudv (talk) 06:04, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just because you, or I, may dislike one Star Trek episode doesn't mean Wikipedia should remove it. You challenge me to prove why Wikipedia should keep this article and I wonder what for? This episode is part of the official Star Trek canon of films. I didn't create this article but since many other Star Trek fans took the time to contribute to it, I think it should stay. In the first original Star Trek TOS series in the 1960's with Captain Kirk, there were some awful episodes made such as Spock's Brain, And the Children shall Lead or The Way to Eden but no one says we should delete their articles because they exist--no matter how atrocious these are. Whether an episode is notable or not is subjective and personal but since Doctor Bashir, I Presume was produced, and fans have taken the time to write about it, I think it should stay. Deep Space Nine was one of the best Star Trek TV spinoffs and this particular episode deals with the interesting subject of genetic engineering. If we delete a Star Trek episode based on one person's subjective opinion, we may as well remove all references to each Star Trek series on Wikipedia since another person will dislike another episode in ST DS9. Personally, I am not a hard-core sci-fi fan (more like a moderate one actually) but I don't think the Wikipedia community want to do this. However, if you wish to shorten the plot and incorporate or delete some of its trivia, feel free to do so since they are a bit long for this episode. Here is another link on this article: [1] An idea: why don't you just prune the article's overly long plot and/or trivia sections--rather than deleting it? Ethics of changing DNA[edit]

Seeing future technologies problems(issues) before they are here today is a common story plot for writers to use in the Star Trek franchise. There needs to be a category and collection of the stories. Another story is "Lineage" from Voyager where the mother wants to change the DNA of the fetus. Another is the young-ing of the crew in Rascals (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
