Comment: This should be reformatted as 'List of Intellectual Societies' -the criteria for which would have to be carefully spelt out first. Dan arndt (talk) 02:54, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Intellectual societies have played a great role in the advancement of science and literature, among other human intellectual activities. Usually these societies or clubs have started around some luminary, for example: Socrates leading to Plato's Academy^[1] and more recently Benjamin Franklin started Leather Apron Club.^[2]^[3] Usually a close group of friends were meeting regularly to discuss a topic or a book. Some of these early club later became prominent societies like the Royal Society^[4] and American Philosophical Society that were offshoots of the Invisible College and the club of Benjamin Franklin retrospectively.
