Rashtriya Military School (Erstwhile King George's School) Dholpur was raised as the fifth and the youngest Rashtriya Military School on 16 Jul 1962. Its inaugural ceremony was performed on 18 Aug 1962 by Late Shri VK Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India. Later in 1965, the then Defence Minister Mr YB Chavan also visited the school. The School is housed in the Kesarbagh Palace, a magnificent mansion of the former ruler of the erstwhile Dholpur estate. [1] [2]

It was established in 1962 and is one of only five RMS (Rashtriya Military School, formerly called Royal Indian Military Schools) of its kind in India; the other four being Chail Military School founded in 1922, Ajmer Military School in 1930, Belgaum Military School in 1945, and Bangalore Military School in 1946.[3] RIMC (established in 1922), RIMs and various Sainik Schools contribute 25% to 30% to various training academies of the Armed Forces. 1 RIMC and 5 RMS were established by the government after the World War I to Indianise the British Colonial Military in India by providing western style education with the aim to prepare the potential pool of future military officers.[4] Oldest private military school is Bhonsala Military School established in 1937, which is not a RMS.


The school is affiliated to CBSE. It is an English medium boarding school coming under the Ministry Of Defence. Unit tests are held quarterly in addition to half yearly and annual examinations. Students appear for AISSCE (10th) and AISSE (12th) along with other CBSE affiliated schools in India. Student to staff ratio is about 2.5:1 and student to teaching staff ratio is 10:1 which is far above the national average of India. Staff are recruited by central government from all over India. Students are offered Science subject in 11th and 12th classes. School curriculum includes seven periods of 40 minutes each. Daily three hours of compulsory prep is included in a routine for students to concentrate on studies.

History[edit]

When the School was established in 1962, the number of students were 75 with classes from Class V to VII. There were only two Houses Udaibhan and Vikram. In 1964, the name of the School was changed to Dholpur Military School. By 1970, this institution had attained a high popularity and gradually the strength of the cadets was raised to 200. On 20 Jan 1971, the foundation stone of New Campus was laid by Brig Bhumi Chand the then LBA Chairman and in 1974 the cadets were shifted to the New Campus. Two more houses were constructed - Chittor and Ujjain. Later on, Assembly Hall (Vivekanand Hall), Cadets' Mess, Laboratories, Tradesmen Shop, Gymnasium and other buildings were constructed. In 1980, two more houses namely Nalanda and Taxila (later named as Jagan) were added when the strength of the cadets was raised to 300 . The present strength of the School is 418 Boarders and 16 staff children.

Rashtriya Military School, Dholpur is a fully residential school and run on public school lines. The school prepares its cadets for All India Secondary School Exam (Class X) and All India Senior School Certificate Exam (Class XII) under 10+2 pattern of education of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and is part of Indian Public School Conference (IPSC).

The school is a standing testimony for many illustrious alumni that include many Serving and Retired Military Generals in the Armed Forces, Senior Officers in Para Military Forces, Civil Servants, Judges, Film actors, Business magnets, Political leaders and many more have made the Institution proud by excelling in almost all spheres of life. The battlefield is unresisting. It demands character of the highest order and a sacred conviction. The alumni of RMS Dholpur never flinched from duty even in the face of death as Gallantry is a tradition at RMS Dholpur. The long list of 18 Gallantry award winners continues to inspire the young cadets with its lessons of valour and leadership. Maj Gopi Singh Rathore, SC (Posthumous) and Capt Rakesh Sharma, SC (Posthumous) were the old boys who received the highest gallantry award and rest continued the legacy of achieving the highest military awards and decorations.

The school has registered its name twice in Limca Book of Records for creating “World’s Largest Equilateral Triangle Fractal” and “Largest Swachh Bharat Pledgethon” on 02 Oct 2018. The efforts of the school are ever recognised as Cadet Sparsh Kankane topped and Cadet Kuldeep Singh secured fifth rank in the UPSC for NDA /NA course. Cadet Sachin Kumar Chahar was awarded “Sword of Honour” during passing out parade at IMA, Dehradun. Cadet Amrendra Singh Narayan was decorated by Honourable Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on declaring the Best Cadet during “Republic Day Camp & Prime Minister Rally in 2010”. The Cadets of the school known for its boxing skill has participated in IPSC Boxing Championship at National level and bagged Winner Trophy many times.

The school has witnessed fame, struggle, success and failures as part of its history. Notwithstanding, it has remained firm in its objective for which it was established as a provider of quality education to the wards of Defence Personnel and Civilians and prepare them for Defence Services. Over the years, yet another aspect has continued to remain constant i.e., the school has been moulding its cadets into worthy and responsible citizens of our motherland.


Aim[edit]

The primary aim of the RMS is to prepare students for the All India Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The school also prepares boys who wish to join the Indian Armed Forces for the entrance examination of National Defence Academy. Boys and Girls between the age of 10–12 years are eligible for admission to school from Class VI onward. Alumni of the five RMS are known as "Georgians" after their founder father.

The school is a category ‘A’ establishment of the Army and is administrated by the Directorate General of Military Training at IHQ of MOD (Army). It is under Army. The Central Governing Council, headed by the Defence Secretary, Ministry of Defence is the apex body for the school. The school prepares boys from the age of 10 to 18 years for the All India Secondary School Examination and All India Senior School Certificate Examination, New Delhi and also for Entrance Examination to the National Defence Academy.

The school educates pupils from class 6th to 12th with the aim to train and prepare the cadets for NDA. Academic campus[edit]

The school buildings are located on two adjacent hills, the one on Kesarbagh hill is the Academic campus, and the hostel and residences are located on the adjacent hill some times referred as Residential Block (new campus).

Academic block[edit]

Besides the Academic block the Kesarbagh Hill Fort houses a post office, Police Chowki, swimming pool, golf course, tennis court and craft room. The school houses a library.

Residential block[edit]

There are six hostels - Nalanda, Vikram(Old name Jagan), Shivaji (old name Vikram), Udaibhan, Chittor and Ujjain. Along with hostels the new campus has the Principal's residence, cadet's mess, Vivekanand Hall, VIP guest house, guest house, cafeteria, CSD canteen, MI Room, staff residence, Temple, basketball courts, lawn tennis courts, gymnasium, boxing ring, obstacles. Stairs from the new campus lead to play grounds for daily games activities. There are three lakes around the campus - India Lake, Pakistan Lake and Duck Lake (getting their name due to their physical shape).

Every hostel has two floors, with Junior Dorm, Middle dorm and Box Room on the first floor and Senior dorm in one side and Preparation Room, Recreation Room and warden office on the other. A house is under command of a House Captain. School is commanded by a School Captain, School Adjutant, a CCA Captain and a Sports Captain.

Campus life[edit]

Typical day[edit]

A typical day in a cadet's life starts at 0500 hrs with PT, followed by breakfast, assembly, classes at Kesarbagh Fort (with tea break at 1115 hrs) till 1300 hrs, then lunch at cadet's mess, noon prep, evening games, wash and change, evening prep, dinner at 2000 hrs and after dinner prep until lights out at 2200 hrs.

NCC[edit]

NCC is a part of cadet activities and there are hobby clubs catering to cadet's interest.

CCA[edit]

CCA (Co-Curricular Activities) are part of the school curriculum. Cadets participate in debates, declamations, quizzes, extempore, dance, theatre, poetry recitation in English and Hindi. They also participate in inter house and inter school arts competitions. The school team is a participant in national and state level CCA meets.

For the Janamasthami festival cadets hunt through the night to collect flowers from campus and decorate their temples throughout the day which are visited by everyone in the evening.

Sports and physical education[edit]

Cadets undergo compulsory physical training in the morning and play sports in the evening. The school has facilities for football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, cross-country, boxing, table tennis, lawn tennis, squash and badminton. The school is a member of the Indian Public Schools' Conference (IPSC) and participates in state as well as national level sports competitions. The Inter Military Schools Pentangular meet is an annual sports and CCA event where all five military schools (and previously Rashtriya Indian Military College Dehradun) compete in several field.

The school is a member of the Indian Public Schools' Conference (IPSC) and participates in state as well as national level sports competitions. In 2007, cadets won six gold, seven silver and two bronze in the CBSE cluster XIII Athletics meet held at Chandigarh.[citation needed] The Inter Military Schools Pentangular meet is an annual sports and CCA event where all five military schools (and previously Rashtriya Indian Military College Dehradun) compete in several field.

Achievements[edit]

(a) Diamond Jubilee Year. The School is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee Year from 16 July 2022 onwards. School org many sportive & CCA events from time to time throughout the year to make this year memorable. Final pgme is sch in Jul 2023.

(b) IPSC Boxing Championship 2023. IPSC boxing Championship 2023 was org from 17 Apr 2023 to 20 Apr 2023 and students from 09 x Schools of the country participated. The RMS Dholpur secured 1st position in the championship after 10 years.

(c) Science Olympiad Foundation Competition. Cdts participate in SOF Olympiad every year. School No 3701 Cdt Praful Yadav of Cl–X of this school secured 1st rank in International level of Science Olympiad Foundation. He was awarded with Gold Medal of Excellence for his outstanding performance and a cash prize of ₹ 16,667/-. More than 70,000 schools from 70 countries registered for 7 SOF Olympiads exam. Prize distr ceremony took place at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi on 28 May 2023 and he recd the award from the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.

'(d) Selection of Rajasthan Dte Shooting Championship of NCC.' School No 3469 Cdt Suraj of Cl –XII has been selected for Raj Dte level Shooting Championship commencing from 05 Jun 2023 to 15 Jun 2023 at Sri Ganganagar. He is representing Kota Gp HQ for the shooting Championship.

(e) All India Trekking Expedition (Boys) NCC at Amarkantak (MP). Four Cdts of Cl –XII attended “All India Trekking Expedition (Boys) NCC” alongwith Lt Amiya Dey, Master Gazetted & ANO, NCC Army Wing (SD) from 21 May 2023 to 28 May 2023 at Amarkantak (MP). School No 3457 Cdt Himanshu Singh awarded Gold Medal in “Tug of War” represented Raj Dte and School No 3467 Cdt Jatin Chauhan awarded Gold Medal for Best in Discipline. A total of 500 Cdts from MP & CG, UK, Raj, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab & Chandigarh Dte participated the National level Expedition.
