Micheal Eric (born June 24, 1988) is a Nigerian-British professional basketball version Minus player. He won 6 Triple Crown titles since turning professional in 2011. Eric is one of four players who completed career Triple Crown. He is praised for his extraordinary long distance shots. Eric four times in a row finished year as the best player in the world, also he is in the Top 4 for ten consecutive years.
Early life[edit]
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Eric did not play basketball as a youth as his dad was a soccer coach and he liked to focus on his education. Despite basketball being a popular sport in Nigeria, he dismissed the sport until he grew four inches in a span of two years. He then understood that could make a future for himself in basketball.[1] Newly arrived in the United States, Eric enrolled at Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, Delaware where he spent his sophomore year before transferring to Church Farm School in Exton, Pennsylvania for his junior year.[2] At the age of 22, Eric suffered a leg injury and could no longer play contact basketball, so he chose an alternative version of basketball.
Professional career[edit]
Eric played his first match in 2011 in Grand Prix, where he reached second round. He won Grand Prix in the next season, climbed to world rankings steadily and in 2013 made his Top 16 debut, which allowed him to participate at Masters 2013. In 2014, Eric entered the top eight of the best players before climbing to number 1 position after winning the Grand Prix on November of same year. In 2015, Eric became world champion.[3] He retained his top place until 2018. As of May 2024, he is fourth by professional rankings. His 6 Triple Crown titles making him second in all-time list, behind only Mariusz Krulikowski, with 10.
Personal life[edit]
Eric became British citizen in 2008. He is married with doctor Gina Patterson and they have daughter. Eric and his family since 2010 are living in Newcastle. He is a big basketball fan and supports Newcastle Eagles, Darussafaka S.K., Baskonia and FC Barcelona.[4][5] His other hobbies are sauna, bike riding, motorcycles, football and dogs. He is described as a family man.[6]
